Delay In Naming Pak ODI Squad Against SL

Delay In Naming Pak ODI Squad Against SL
The source said the selectors might face issues over ignoring discarded players like Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi or Imran Nazir when they sit down to finalize the one-day squad.
The announcement of Pakistan's one-day squad for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates has been delayed due to the induction of new Chairman Zaka Ashraf.
A member of the selection committee said the plan was to finalize the one-day squad after the second test but they would now wait for clearance from the new Chairman.
"We will wait till the Chairman calls us for a meeting to discuss the one-day team and then we can go ahead with our announcement. Basically we have shortlisted 18 players for the series," he said.

Acting chief selector Muhammad Illyas was not among those who greeted the new Chairman when he came to the PCB headquarters at the Gaddafi stadium on Friday.
Sources said that Illyas didn't want to give an impression to the new Chairman that he wanted to score points with him.
"Illyas is waiting for the Chairman to call him and other selectors," one source said.
They are indications and going by past incidents whenever a new Chairman has taken charge that Zaka might opt for a new selection committee soon.
But a source said for him it would be all about timing.
"The present selection committee has done well with their selected team winning the second Test against Sri Lanka and the Abdul Razzaq led squad also winning the Super sixes tournament in Hong Kong," he added.
Permanent chief selector, Mohsin Khan is presently working with the Pakistan team as interim coach for the Sri Lanka series.
Under the present system in the PCB the selectors have to seek approval from the Chairman before announcing a squad and the Chairman holds the power to veto any team and suggest changes.
The source said the selectors might face issues over ignoring discarded players like Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi or Imran Nazir when they sit down to finalize the one-day squad.
"Razzaq who has not been selected since the World Cup has led the team to victory in the Hong Kong sixes while Afridi has announced he is available for selection again so the Chairman might suggest to the selectors to pick them in the squad," the source said.
The selectors under former Chairman, Ijaz Butt followed a policy of blooding new players for the limited over matches.
"One thing is certain that Umar Akmal and Sohail Tanvir will be in the one-day squad," the source added.
